Cleaning the Crypt

With the Holiday period upon us I decided to tackle a dreadful task, cleaning up my craft room! I knew it would be a dreadful chore, but because I want to start 2013 fresh and focused on my crafting, it was a necessary evil.

My Crypt heard me talking about it for some time and did the favour of picking up the storage drawers for me, (I don't drive so taking these on the bus would be quite impossible)

ASSEMBLING THESE THINGS KILLED ME!

My craft room is a spare room at the back of the house, we have a home gym and drum kit in there so its a bit tight, I really needed to maximise the space. I'm super proud of myself for remembering to take before and after shots.

BEFORE:
Yes, it was a total dump, and I decided to move the furniture mid-cleaning. Cos I'm super smart.

Chris' father made me this fabulous chest of small drawers, its the best thing to store all my fiddly little bits in, I have lots of fiddly little bits. :)
AFTER: How fabulous is it now, I can actually walk around and easily find things!
My storage units came up beautifully. And I now have a designated area for my resin pieces to set.

The natural light I get at the desk now is perfect for crafting. Not to mention the view of my backyard is quite nice.
I am so beyond happy with my room now, I feel totally ready to tackle 2013 head on. I shall be spending many happy hours at my desk crafting away.

For anyone else scared of the thought of cleaning out, do it now! You won't regret the end result!

Excitement Birthday News!

Today is not only Chris's birthday, but I just found out moments ago that two of my favourite 'teenage' bands are coming to play their Brisbane show ON MY BIRTHDAY next year!

Squeals of excitement were unleashed. I've been a fan of Bastard Squad (VIC) for yeeeeearrrs, but I've never seen them play. I missed a chance last year when they played on the Gold Coast but I became so violently ill at the gig I had to leave hours before they played.

And English Dogs (UK) are a band that I never thought I'd see in Brisbane, they've been on my 'bands I'm going to have to travel to the UK to see list' for ages.

So I'm chirpin this Saturday morning

Brizvegas Kustom Karnival

BRIZVEGAS KUSTOM KARNIVAL - ACACIA RIDGE HOTEL, BRISBANE 4th November 2012

Twas super fun! Sold lotsa pretty things, met heaps of awesome people and had an all round darn good time!

I was super impressed with myself for being so organised and prepared for this market. But a week of late night craft sessions helped me there. (I hold down a full time 40 hour a week job, so all my crafting is done at night in my cave)

It seems little children love to look at my hair, I guess there arent many girls with massive blonde mohawks at Rockabilly shows so I fully understand (and appreciate) their staring.

Throughtout the day there was such a buzz of happiness through the buiding, everyone as smiling and  a lot of people were bouncing along to the beat as they strolled through the market stalls. Lori Lee is truly a woman to be congratulated for putting on such a fun and successful event.

As usual I made heaaaapppppss of stuff, so there will be an after sale on my Facebook page this coming Thursday night.
This is probably a quarter of the bows I have!
Join me on Facebook Thursday 8th November to score some bargains! I post worldwide as well!

On a hilarious side note, when I set up my tables in the morning, a spider the size of my hand crawled out and disappeared on the patterned carpet. I assumed it had run off somewhere but when I got home that night the spider crawled out of the table leg and crawled off to his home in my shed. I guess he's my mascot now.

Greazefest 2012

GREAZEFEST 2012 - ROCKLEA SHOWGROUND, BRISBANE

It was the best and busiest day of my life! It took months of preperation but it was all worth it in the end. We arrived at the showgrounds just before 7am to find it already bustling with excitement as people set up their stalls.

I didnt get a chance to get photos of my stall as it was go go go from the minute Mr Crypt and I got there. I'm very happy that I had done a trial set up in my own backyard because it definitely helped me get everything out and ready quickly. The only difficult part was when the hot rods started rolling in, I kept stopping my set up to have a look!

The public were allowed entry at 9am and you could feel a definite buzz in the air as people were waiting outside. Once they came in, people were buying Crypt Creations goodies from the get-go! I'm very lucky that I had Mr Crypt, my mum and some sisters along to help me out!

I was so overwhelmed with the kind comments from people who bought goodies from me. The most frequest comment was how affordable my items were. Being affordable is something I have always strived for with my little business, so I was incredibly happy to hear that. :) I got so many nice comments that my cheeks actually hurt from smiling I was absolutely buzzing!

By the time 5pm rolled around Mr Crypt and I were exhausted and nearly asleep. we packed up as the sun set and got one final photo for the day by a photographer whose mother asked me and Mr Crypt to kiss for the photo. This is a very easy thing for me to do!!

He was the best helper I could have asked for on the day. And he put up with me for the months leading up to GF constantly asking him if things looked pretty and which colour combinations looked best!

Lori Lee, the organiser of GF is truly a woman to be congratulated. Everything ran so smoothly and perfectly and given the massive amounts of people and cars that were there, that as no easy task!

When we were home, it as a matter of shower, eat, sleep. And boy oh boy did we sleep, but I slept happy.

Can't wait for next year!

My Bone Factory

One of my most favourite creations are my bones.

I crafted two from clay, and then made many molds from those. I then cast each bone in resin, and turn them into the funkiest of hair clips.

I love them, but the only problem I am having is deciding which colours to make!

I've done white, every shade of pink and purple, red, turquoise, green But what should I do next!

I was going to do blue, but is there a demand for blue hair bones?

Please let me know!

Working For Jasper

Since deciding I want Crypt Creations to be my everything I have been plunging all of my savings from the day job into building up supply stocks, marketing, the website, fancy packaging and all the other things you need to spend money on in order to build a business.

I have been doing very well in saving all my hard earned money, and I really felt as though I was beginning to come out on top in the rat race.

However a series of unfortunate events has turned my operation on its head. My Grandmother passed away nearly 3 weeks ago now. And while that may seem a long time for such matters the funeral was only held last week. She did not pass in pleasant circumstances, and as a police investigation is looking into her passing I probably shouldn't say any more.

Then to add to that my partner and I's beloved bull terrier Jasper has taken a turn for the worse. We have known he has a heart defect for some time now but it has only just reared his head when he collapsed last week. A rush to the animal hospital left us with a hefty bill and an appointment with a dog cardiologist tomorrow which is going to be an even heftier bill.

To add to his spell of bad luck on Sunday he somehow broke his tail! We were out when it happened so we can only guess what he did but poor little Jasper now has a broken tail and a 'maybe' broken heart. The tail cost us another hefty vets bill.

So things will need to take a step down while I focus my time and money on the doggy for awhile. I am still conducting online sales through my Etsy store, the website will hopefully be launched this coming Friday. To raise money for the vets bills I am having 10% off everything in my Etsy store, just use the coupon code: FABULOUS

Building the website

Phewww!

I dont know if its just because I'm a mad perfectionist but building this website has been super hard.

However I am doing it exactly the way I wanted to: all by myself!

I'm a dinosaur when it comes to computers, so teaching myself all the skills I need has been hard but it just makes me so much prouder that I have built something all by myself.

Still not sure on the launch date but it is nearing closer. ;)

Whats coming up...

Heres a list of awesome things I am currently working on:
  • Building the Crypt Creations website! (I'm a perfectionist so its taking a while)
  • Sorting market dates.
  • Beginning work on the Halloween range!
I also have a sketch book full of new ideas to make into resin cast jewellery. This is time consuming but something I love to do, it means my designs are totally unique and different which is what I want to give to my customers.

I'll do an entry on my modelling and casting once the supplies I need have arrived!

:)
